A Day in the Life of a MOM/WIFE

Oh the wonderful skills that a mom/wife uses throughout the day. I think about some typical days for me.... Waking up to a child who has had a nightmare...praying together and tucking them in next to me. Waking and spending time with self and the Lord. Breakfast!! Reading a book together before everyone separates to get into individual school work. Pay a few bills. Teaching math, answering questions about language, giving a spelling test, trying to find a country on the map, watching a video about bees on the internet.....Walking on the treadmill.....LUNCH! Fortunately, you have kids that like to cook....answering questions about how much of this or that for a recipe? Talk to Nat, Leo, or Drew on the phone. LAUNDRY!!! Piano and guitar practice. The phone....the door....the pets. Then, come the questions...."Mom what do I do when...?" You pray together. Husband calls and says, "Can we meet with.......on this night?" One of the boys runs in with a banged up knee...where is the hydrogen peroxide? Now, driving in the car to soccer, piano, ballet, horseback riding....stop and get groceries because you need something for supper. Pick everyone up....answer serious questions about things that friends or teachers said....laugh about a goofy thing they did. More food...supper. Asking precious and tired husband how his day was....processing life together. Last minute school work...cuddling on the couch for a favorite show. Music onto ipods. "Is my uniform ready for the game tomorrow, Mom?" Keeping in touch with friends via the phone or internet. Talks on beds before lights out...."mom, my foot is hurting after ballet", "mom, I need you to read my paper I finished today" "Mom, can I order....." Good night kisses and hugs and I love yous. Awe...nothing like it!!!!
Wouldn't trade it for anything!!!
God has chosen to live through you and me, in this place and time, and in very intimate precious ways in the lives of those we live with. It is really not about whether we feel qualified or not, but are you listening for His leading, being open to one-of-a-kind moments, laughing at yourself, giving and receiving forgiveness and grace, and remembering that life is improvisational. "Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire." May we find in the end that we focused on those things that will not be shaken. Go forth kingdom builders!!

I love it, Mommy!!! I have never thought about the days from your perspective. You are so cute and so busy.

I see your day so clearly through the lens of my own history... today my day is so different, yet somehow the "kingdom" things remain comfortingly (is that a word?) the same as I even watch replays of my life lived 33 years later down the road. Oh how much better they do it than I?! thank you my friend for bringing sweet thoughts and reminders to my day today.... I love who you are and what you bring to my life! c
